MAC Fall Colour 2011 Review/Swatches - EYESHADOWS

Part three of my MAC Fall Colour 2011 review is the eye shadows. Five eye shadows are part of this collection and they go as follows:

  • Blue Candy -Which is a cross of a Robin's egg blue & Sky blue. It has a satin finish and applies pretty sheer. I would recommend using a white base for this.

  • Three Ring Yellow- This one is super pretty. It's not quite Chartreuse but not a true yellow. Its shimmery and and highly pigmented. It has a veluxe pearl finish which makes it the easiest one to work with out of the five.

  • Royale - I truly swoon over this color. It wants to be an Indigo but pulls more Violet. I really love this but it also goes on semi-sheer so a base is required to really get that intensity. It has a matte finish.

  • Passionate - Described as a matte bright reddish pink. I didn't get this color yet but will update as soon as I do.

  • Shock-a-holic - Described as a medium purple with a satin finish. I did not get this one since it sort reminded me of Sugarpill's "Plum Poison" but not as great.

Overall, I think they are great shade. I'm disappointed with "Blue Candy" since it is the sheerest of the three and you REALLY have to pack it on to full appreciate the color. "Three Ring Yellow" is probably the nicest yellow I have seen in a while and goes on like butter but you can thank that Veluxe pearl finish for that. "Royale" is a beautiful color and really quite difficult to capture with the camera. Depending on what you pair it with, "Royale" can be more blue than purple and vice versa. It's a fun color to say the least!

MAC Fall Colour 2011 Review/Swatches - MINERALIZE SKINFINISHES

MAC kept Mineralized Skinfinish fans on edge with pending the release of the coveted "Lightscapade" MSF! It sold out on the MAC website super fast because people were buying 2 or 3 for themselves to hoard and I don't blame them! Don't be discouraged about "Porcelain Pink" just yet though! She may have not sold out like "Lightscapade" but she's a gem. I can say that they are both the stars of this collection and they go as follows:
  • Porcelain Pink - Described as "soft pinky coral with gold veining"...

ALTHOUGH mine barely had any gold veining. Of couse, each one is unique so some maybe more gold whereas some have less.

  • Lightscapade - Described as "soft candlelit beige with multi-dimensional shimmer".

Sounds fancy huh? It's pretty neat. Each one is very unique. Actually, many people covet the ones that have a lot of blue veining & green veining. Especially those of fairer skin with cooler undertones. It is rare of MAC to put out such a "cool toned" MSF so it's no surprise it sold out so quickly. It's a rare gem.

I see myself inclined more towards "Porcelain Pink" because I have a warmer complexion. "Lightscapade" will get some love perhaps as a highlight. Its just nice to "have" it just because.

Both of these Mineralized Skinfinishes are most certainly my favorite part of the entire Fall Colour collection. I would have gladly given up everything else just for these... but luckily I didn't have to!

What do you think of them? Do you plan to get them? Does anyone own them already? How will/do you use yours?

MAC Fall Colour 2011 Review/Swatches - LIPSTICKS

Hey all! I recently ordered some items from MAC's Fall Colour collection. I will be breaking up the review into FOUR parts. First up is the lipsticks!

The lipsticks ($14.50) that are featured as a part of the Fall Colour collection are:

  • Violetta - Which I did pick up and described as a "bright clean violet purple with an Amplified finish". This is always available through MAC Pro.

  • Show Orchid - Another one I got and described as "vivid hot pink with an Amplified finish". Also always available through MAC Pro.

  • Neon Orange - I had this color for a while now. Its part of their permanent line and its described as a "bright clean orange with an Amplified finish".

  • Ruby Woo - Another color I had previously and also part of their permanent line. Described as "vivid bluish-red with a Matte finish".

  • Fusion Pink - I picked this one up and its described as "bright coral with an Amplified finish". Also available through MAC Pro.

  • Plum Bright- Described as a "purple with a Satin finish". I did not get this one because it is too close to "Bust Out!" from the Summer 2011 collection "Surf, Baby".

  • X-S - Described as "dirty red chestnut with a Satin finish". I also did not get this one as it is too brown for me.
  • Fleshpot - I did not get this one but its described as a "pale muted pinky beige with a Satin finish". Also always available at MAC Pro.

They all apply beautifully with the exception of "Ruby Woo". Since it is a matte, "Ruby Woo" is not flattering or comfortable for those with dry lips. It pulls and drags while applying making it slightly difficult to work with. If you can get it to work, its simply beautiful. Is it worth the effort? It totally up to the individual.

Violetta seems to go on sheer. It took about 4 to 5 swipes to get it to be really opaque and intense. Good for some people, annoying to others I guess. It is beautiful with this duo chrome aspect which makes up for the sheerness.

I have no complaints as for the other three. Very vibrant, smooth application and most certainly worth the money.

I will note that Neon Orange is more of a reddish orange. Not a true orange. It's not my favorite orange lipstick but it does get some love occasionally. It's not for the faint of heart.

All the colors are very true to the tube. I'm truly satisfied with my purchase.

At a glance: MAC Fall Colour collection

I received my purchase from the Fall Colour collection from MAC. There are also some Mattene lipsticks from the Posh Paradise collection. I will have the swatches and reviews up shortly. Just wanted to share the view when I opened the box! I heard the angels singing when I saw this ...

TheBalm Down Boy Blush (review/swatches)

It's safe for me to announce that I love TheBalm. Its an underrated brand but definitely holds it's own.

I'm particularly fond of their line of blushes. They are so silky, pigmented and blendable that I was left beyond impressed. For the price of $21, the quality matches up to other blushes with a higher price tag.

Down boy is a soft bubble gum pink blush. It there is a slight blue undertone which is more flatting on those with fairer skin. I'm a warm fair-medium complexion and I can wear Down Boy very lightly even though it is a "cool" toned pink. As with all the blushes from TheBalm, Down Boy is very pigmented so go lightly on it or face the chance of looking clown-ish.

The packaging is very sturdy and slim - which is convenient for easy storage. It includes a mirror and no annoying low-quality applicator. The art work is pretty awesome but then again... that is standard of TheBalm.

Pros: Very blendable, finely milled, silky, very pigmented, sleek, compact, beautiful packaging.

Cons: Too cool toned for me. Generally works best with fairer complexion (a pro for those who that applies to).

TheBalm Cast Your Shadow (Muppets Palette)/The Balm & the Beautiful palette (Swatches)

Recently, I was able to get my hands on the Muppets palette & The balm & the Beautiful palette. They are exactly the same palette except the Muppets packaging is limited edition and only 1,000 of them were made. The Balm & the Beautiful palette is a Holiday 2011 release and I'm assuming a lot more were made for retail.

Both palettes contain the same 16 eyeshadows, one lip gloss, and two cheek/lip stains renamed for theme purposes. Each shadow is approximately 1.0 ounces - which is an AMAZING deal considering the palettes will retail $44.50.

The names of the shadows, stains, and gloss go as follows:

Muppets/Balm & Beautiful palette (eyeshadows)
  • Tres Moi/The Oil Tycoon
  • Wocka, Wocka/The Estranged Mom
  • Meep Meep/The Supermodel
  • Mahna-Mahna/The Bad Boy
  • Sensational/The Southern Bell
  • Inspirational/The Mother-In-Law
  • Celebrational/The Guy Who Died But Didn’t Really Die
  • Muppetational/The Mistress
  • Woman, Woman/The Step Brother
  • Curtain Call/The Coma Patient
  • Great Gonzo/The Police Man
  • Kissy, Kissy/The Brain Surgeon
  • Wild Child = The Neighbor
  • Lab Coat/The Stock Broker
  • Hiii-Yaaa!/The Basketcase
  • Swedish Pancakes/The Older Woman

Muppets/Balm & Beautiful palette
  • Rainbow Connection/The Drama Queen
  • Le Diva/The Perfect Man
  • Electric Mayhem/The Evil Twin

The shadows are soft and highly pigmented. They go on without any problems. The shade range is incredibly versatile. You can go from a neutral eye to a smokey eye to a simple hint of color on the lips and cheeks.

I think the biggest pro about these palette is the packaging. Its sturdy, thin and they separated the eye shadows from the gloss and stains in the most genius way. The eye shadows and the lip stains/gloss have their own compartment so there is virtually no way fall out from the shadows can taint them.

At the moment, I can't think of any cons but should I come across one, I will update this post.

Overall, I think it's well worth the money. Definitely a must-have. You can't go wrong even if you're just a Muppets fan and cannot get the Muppets version, the Balm & the Beautiful version is something you can appreciate.
